Sembatya Edward (Founder and Director Dance Theatre Uganda) is a versatile and strong-minded Ugandan dance performer, Choreographer, Dance teacher. He is a graduate of the Norwegian College of Dance (Norges Dansehøyskole), in Dance and pedagogy, Oslo-Norway and Makerere University, Kampala Uganda, where he is presently instructing Jazz dance styles and Ugandan traditional dances. He has had a rock-hard experience in training Ugandan folk dances in many primary schools, secondary, tertiary institutions, Aids information centres, Refugee camps, organisations and churches in Uganda and beyond. His journey in dance is traced as far back in high school at Tender Talents Magnet School and later he joined different performing troupes that equipped him with knowledge and confidence to teach, and perform.
Edward has participated in a numbery of projects and collaborations both local and international, as a choreographer, performer and teacher. Some of these includes: The Norwegian College of Dance and Makerere University Collaborations, New York University and Makerere University (Dance your rhythm), Norwegian College of dance and the Norwegian College of Music (Koydon), Inter Aid Uganda and Makerere University and so many others. Therefore, the adroitness and discipline that he practically depicts in the field of dance, makes people around him appreciate and respect his artistry.
